The old First Baptist Church of Phoenix suffered a fire many years ago destroying it's bell tower. The remains of the building are still a prominent feature of the area. The front entryway has a large glass skylight whose blue reflections could be seen across the street as this tourist strolled along West Monroe. The Italian Gothic architecture with its repeated arched windows and doors is attractive and shows a great deal of ornate stonework. In 2009 a part of the Church became an art gallery that was intended to generate funds for the poor and assist with housing for children.
